Frequently Asked Questions

What does co-location mean and how will that impact my ACPA annual convention experience?

The 2013 convention represents an unprecedented partnership with NIRSA. Co-Location is distinct from a joint convention. While there will be several combined events during the Convention, as well as sharing of space (including the Opening Session/Reception, the Exposition/Exhibits Area, and Career Services including the New C3), ACPA and NIRSA will each be holding their own conferences but with a strong collaborative spirit.

In the interest of collaboration, all registered attendees to either conference will have unrestricted access to over 700 ACPA and NIRSA educational sessions. This provides each association the opportunity to continue its own traditions and programs while also taking advantage of the other group’s offerings. This unique event, first announced in 2011, builds on the developing relationship between the two associations.

From an ACPA attendee perspective, the Annual Convention will still have the many events that bring our membership together. As a bonus, you will have access to a wider range of educational programs, have multiple opportunities to engage our colleagues in NIRSA, and further consider how we can best inspire communities of wellbeing at all levels back on our home campuses. This collaboration allows us to do some of our activities in a bigger and better way through shared space and resources.

What is and who is NIRSA?

NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation, founded in 1950 as the National Intramural Association is a leader in higher education and the advocate for the advancement of recreation, sport, and wellness by providing educational and developmental opportunities, generating and sharing knowledge, and promoting networking and growth for its members. NIRSA's nearly 4,000 members are represented on more than 700 campus and universities, as well as on U.S. military installations, in public park and recreation departments, correctional facilities, not-for-profit organizations, and private enterprise.
