| All submissions in all categories will be subject to review by the 2010 Convention Program Committee. For questions about 2010 Convention programs, please contact Ann Groves Lloyd, 2010 Convention Program Chair. Program submissions for the 2010 Convention are due on Friday, September 11, 2009. Ancillary program requests are due November 20, 2009.
Pre-Convention Workshops
Pre-convention Workshops will be held Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21, 2010. Proposals are encouraged for workshops of extended length (half-day or full-day, 3 or 6 hours, respectively) on topics related to the Professional Competencies and/or critical issues that have been identified by the 2010 Convention Program Committee. Please note: These workshops are presented before the Convention begins and participants pay additional fees to attend these workshops. Workshops with low registration may be canceled at the discretion of the Pre-Convention Workshop Coordinator. Decisions regarding cancelations will be made on or about March 5, 2010. Contact Heidi Levine with questions about Pre-Convention Workshops.
General Convention Programs
These programs (75-minutes) are chosen in large part because of their relevance to - and incorporation of - the Professional Competencies and/or the critical issues identified by the 2010 Convention Program Committee. Contact Richie Stevens with questions about General Convention Programs.
Convention Institutes
An Institute is a series of linked programs (typically 2 to 5) that provide Convention attendees with an intensive learning experience designed to promote a level of competence in a specific area. By linking consecutive or multiple program sessions (2½ to 6 hours total) with a common theme, presenters can explore a topic in more depth. Institute submissions should include a theme, conceptual framework, and individual program titles and abstracts. Program proposals must be clear how many sessions are proposed, the focus of each one, and the connections between them. If an Institute is accepted, the coordinating presenter of the Institute will be contacted and required to submit additional information about each component of the Institute. Contact Diane Sledden Reed with questions about Convention Institutes.
Sponsored Programs
ACPA's structure includes Commissions that represent functional areas of issues pertinent to student affairs work and Standing Committees that represent specific constituencies within our membership. Should a program be directly related to the work of one of the sponsoring groups, this should be indicated in the program proposal. If aproposal is not selected as a Sponsored Program (75-minutes), it will be considered for a General Program slot. Contact Susan Mendoza-Jones with questions about Sponsored Programs.
Co-sponsored Programs
If the proposal content is related to the work of more than one Commission or Standing Committee, the program proposal may be submitted for sponsorship to two Commissions, two Standing Committees, or one of each. The presenter can request that these groups consider the proposal for co-sponsorship. The two entities will review the program proposal and jointly select those that address their common concerns. If the proposal is not selected as a Co-sponsored program (75-minutes), it will be considered for a general program slot. Contact Susan Mendoza-Jones with questions about Co-sponsored Programs.
Round Tables
The Round Table option (60-minutes, early morning or late afternoon) allows for in-depth discussion related to current events, developing trends, association matters, or topics related to functional areas or constituency issues. Round Table programs are not eligible to receive any audiovisual support, as these are meant to be discussions, not formal presentations. Contact Diane Sledden Reed with questions about Round Tables.
Sponsored Round Tables
Each Commission and Standing Committee will be able to sponsor a Round Table (60-minutes, early morning or late afternoon). This option allows for an in-depth discussion on a topic or issue that is of significance to the Commission or Standing Committee. Groups may request and may receive more than one Round Table, but will only be guaranteed one slot. Contact Susan Mendoza-Jones with questions about Sponsored Round Tables.
Promising Practices
The Promising Practices program allows presenters to share programs, strategies, and interventions that have been successful on campuses. These programs will be shorter in length (60-minutes, early morning or late afternoon) and will be of special interest to colleagues interested in gathering information about institutional practices. Contact Don Stenta with questions about Promising Practices.
Research Papers
Members may submit proposals for a presentation of a research or scholarly paper. Three presentations will occupy a program slot (15-20 minutes per presentation), followed by discussion (75 minutes total length). Contact Don Stenta with questions about Research Papers.
Research Poster Sessions
Members may submit proposals for Poster Sessions. Poster Sessions provide a forum for presenters to engage in active discussion about a completed research project or a project in process. Poster presenters will display their research on a large bulletin board (provided at the convention) and interact with those circulating in the room. Contact Don Stenta with questions about Poster Sessions.
