Conference Description

The Next Generation Conference, or simply referred to as Next Gen, will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 28-29, 2009 prior to the start of the 2009 ACPA Convention in Metro DC.

Next Gen is a unique opportunity for approximately 100 undergraduates from across the nation to learn about careers in student affairs. Participants will meet and learn from current graduate students, graduate preparation program faculty, and seasoned student affairs professionals who work at a variety of colleges and universities across the country. This is a great way to explore the profession and gather the information you need to plan your future.

Topics To Be Covered

The conference begins early Saturday afternoon and concludes early Sunday evening, just in time for the convention's opening session. Sessions and highlights of this year's conference include:

  • Welcome, Conference Overview, & Introductions
  • Keynote Address from well-known person in higher education
  • Opportunities to connect with ACPA Leadership
  • Leadership through Service: Visions & Values of Profession
  • Current & Future Issues in Student Affairs
  • Perspectives of Graduate Faculty and Current Graduate Students
  • Graduate Preparation Program Displays
  • Making the Transition: From Student Leader to Professional
  • Interaction with the Convention Opening Speaker
  • Participation in the Annual Convention Opening Session

Registration Information

The cost to attend the Next Gen Conference is $100 USD if submitted prior to January 29. After that the cost is $125.

The Annual Convention has created special rates for Next Generation participants who also stay and attend the Annual Convention.

All attendees of the Next Generation Conference are required to register. Registration includes: all conference sessions on March 28th and 29th; dinner on March 28th; Lunch on March 29th; and access to the Opening Session and Reception of the Annual Convention Sunday, March 29th.

Conference registration will be available November 3, 2008.

Next Generation Scholarships Now Available!
Scholarships for registration costs are being offered by various ACPA Standing Committees and Commissions to encourage undergraduate students to attend the Next Generation Conference. Scholarship applications are due on February 20, 2009. Please click the here for a listing of the scholarships being offered. Good luck!

Hotel Accommodations

The hotel for the 2009 ACPA Annual Convention is Gaylord National Resort.

The Next Generation Planning Committee provides a venue for conference attendees to find roommates for the conference in Washington DC. The Google group provides discussion boards for individuals to post their hotel preferences, roommate needs, contact information, and search other listings for roommates. If you have not yet finalized your hotel plans, check it out.
