Access Overview

Convention Registration

ACPA strives to provide an inclusive convention environment that meets the needs of all its members. This Web page is an ongoing effort to provide resources to our members on what accessible accommodations will be available throughout the convention. Our main goal is to provide as many resources as possible to our members about accessibility issues to prevent the need to self-disclose their (dis)ability.

Information about accessibility and accommodations on-site will be available at the Hospitality Booth in the Kentucky International Convention Center.

This Web page is constantly updated so if you feel there is anything that needs to be added, please contact the Access Chair, Matthew Gilsbach at matthew.gilsbach@uvm.edu.

DEAF/HARD OF HEARING ACCOMMODATIONS

ACPA will have assisted listening devices available at the Hospitality Booth for use at all convention locations and hotel locations.

ACPA can and will provide American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters for the convention. However, members must register for the convention and then inform the Access Chair of their request via e-mail. All efforts will be made to ensure interpreters will be available for your convention needs, however there is no guarantee that an interpreter will be on-site for 100 percent of your needs. The earlier the request is made, the more likely the request can be accommodated.

Interpreters will be provided at the following events:

  • Sunday, March 25, 2012: Opening Session
  • Tuesday, March 27, 2012: Standing Committee on Disability (SCD) Open Business Meeting
  • Wednesday, March 28, 2012: Closing Session

Please note the following important details regarding ASL requests:

  • February 20, 2012 is the deadline to request ASL Interpreter Accommodations. Requests received after February 20 cannot be guaranteed.
  • Each deaf participant will have their own ASL Interpreter team for education sessions.
  • Non-educational sessions will be scheduled based on availability of interpreters.

Please send the following information to Matthew Gilsbach when requesting ASL interpreting services:

  • Name
  • Institution
  • On-site contact information (phone/e-mail)
  • Preferred interpreting method (ASL, PSE, SEE, Cued, other?)
